LOS ANGELES, California — The Los Angeles Dodgers fell to the New York Yankees 7-3 on Sunday, avoiding a sweep in their three-game series at Dodger Stadium. This defeat marked the first time this season the Dodgers faced a series sweep.

Yankees pitcher Ryan Yarbrough (3-0) delivered a solid performance, allowing just one run and striking out five over six innings. He faced a packed house of 54,031, the largest crowd of the season. In contrast, Dodgers starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto (6-4) struggled, giving up four runs and seven hits in 3.2 innings.

The Yankees struck first, with Jasson Domínguez driving in a run with a single in the first inning. A throwing error by Dodgers left fielder Andy Pages allowed Domínguez to reach second base, and he then scored on a wild pitch from Yamamoto. The game was tied when Dodgers’ Tommy Edman hit a two-run homer in the second.

However, the Yankees quickly regained the lead. In the third inning, a two-run homer from Jake Rice put the Yankees ahead 4-1, and they extended their lead with RBIs from DJ LeMahieu in the fifth. LeMahieu finished with three hits in the game.

Despite attempts to rally in the later innings, the Dodgers could not overcome the Yankees’ lead. Max Muncy and Pages both hit homers in the seventh to bring the game to 6-3, but LeMahieu’s double in the ninth provided an insurance run for New York.

The loss leaves the Dodgers looking to regroup as they prepare for a four-game series against the New York Mets starting on Monday. The Yankees will face the Cleveland Guardians on Tuesday after an off day.
