Dodgers Succumb to Athletics in 11-1 Loss Despite Conforto’s Three Doubles

LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Dodgers fell to the Oakland Athletics 11-1 on Tuesday night in a disappointing home opener after a lengthy road trip. The Athletics showcased their power as rookie Jacob Wilson hit two home runs and drove in four runs, while the Dodgers struggled to find their offensive rhythm.
Wilson, a 23-year-old shortstop from Los Angeles, went 4 for 5 in the game, raising his batting average to .363 and solidifying his position as a standout rookie. “I’m just trying to take good swings and stay balanced at the plate,” Wilson said post-game.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts acknowledged the collective effort needed for a better performance, stating, “This was as forgettable an outing as we’ve seen in quite some time. We need to be better across the board, especially at the plate.” The defeat marked a tough return for the Dodgers, who had a strong away performance prior to this game.
Michael Conforto shone individually for the Dodgers, racking up a career-high three doubles. However, he was one of the few bright spots as the team mustered just six hits overall. “I’m just trying to keep my head up and work through the slump,” Conforto said, reflecting on his early-season struggles.
Pitcher Landon Knack took the loss, allowing five runs over 4.2 innings. Following him, infielder Miguel Rojas stepped in to pitch the ninth and unfortunately surrendered two homers to the Athletics in quick succession.
The Dodgers will attempt to bounce back in their next game, with Yoshinobu Yamamoto slated to take the mound against Athletics’ Gunnar Hoglund, who is making only his third career start. “We need a better effort, especially with offense to support our pitching,” Roberts emphasized.
