Dodgers’ Tommy Edman Likely Out Longer Due to Ankle Injury

LOS ANGELES, CA – Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts announced that Tommy Edman is unlikely to return from the injured list during the team’s upcoming series against the Arizona Diamondbacks this weekend. Edman’s right ankle is “just not responding” as quickly as the team had hoped, casting uncertainty over his return.
Initially, the Dodgers expected Edman to be back shortly after being placed on the 10-day injured list, which was backdated to April 30. Roberts previously indicated that the situation was not severe, but the outlook has since changed. “Tommy ran [Friday] and just still didn’t feel great, still some soreness in his ankle,” Roberts shared. “We just felt that it was an easier decision to make sure he gets it right.”
Edman, who is hitting .252 with eight home runs and 24 RBIs this season, became one of the team’s key players before his injury. This season, he also ranks in the 96th percentile for Outs Above Average, indicating his valuable defensive capabilities. Losing Edman represents a substantial setback for the Dodgers, who continue to deal with multiple injuries across their roster.
Compounding the issue, outfielder Teoscar Hernández was also placed on the injured list with a Grade 1 abductor strain. He joined a growing list of players sidelined due to injuries, which now includes 13 pitchers. Despite these challenges, the Dodgers hold the best record in baseball at 25-12.
Roberts admitted that the Dodgers have to find a way to navigate their injury troubles as they prepare for their next games. “We have to stay afloat, but injuries are part of baseball,” he said. “We just need to adapt and keep playing hard.”
