Dodgers Trim Roster as Frasso, Seven Others Sent to Minors

GLENDALE, Ariz. — The Los Angeles Dodgers made their first roster cuts of spring training Sunday, optioning pitcher Nick Frasso and reassessing seven other players to minor league camp.
Frasso, who missed all of the 2024 season due to shoulder surgery, pitched impressively this spring, throwing a scoreless inning in each of his two appearances during Cactus League games. He becomes part of the Dodgers’ minor league roster as they prepare for the upcoming season.
Alongside Frasso, outfielders Josue De Paula, Zyhir Hope, Justin Dean, Ryan Ward, and pitchers Carlos Duran, Julian Fernandez, and Justin Jarvis were also reassigned. De Paula and Hope are regarded as two of the Dodgers’ top 20 prospects and both are entering pivotal age-20 seasons.
Justin Dean has been notable for his consistent performance this spring, managing to play in all 11 scheduled games so far. Among the Dodgers still in major league camp is infielder Kody Hoese, who remains a contender for a roster spot.
With only eight games left on the Dodgers’ Arizona spring schedule, further cuts can be expected throughout the week. Currently, the team has 59 players remaining in big league camp at Camelback Ranch, which includes 25 position players and 34 pitchers.
As Opening Day approaches, the competition for roster spots intensifies. While most positions appear filled, two remain up for grabs. Among those vying for spots are outfielders Eddie Rosario and James Outman, infielders David Bote and Hyeseong Kim, as well as utility player Chris Taylor. Bote has been particularly impressive, boasting a .500 batting average this spring with two home runs and nine RBIs.
The Dodgers are set to travel to Japan in less than two weeks, making it imperative that final roster decisions are made prior to the trip. As the team continues its preparations, the talent at spring camp presents both opportunities and challenges for the reigning champions.
