Dolphins’ Braxton Berrios Placed on IR Due to Significant Knee Injury
Miami Dolphins wide receiver and return specialist Braxton Berrios has been placed on injured reserve following a significant knee injury sustained during the team’s recent game against the Indianapolis Colts.
According to reports, Berrios left the game with what is feared to be a serious knee injury. His agent, Drew Rosenhaus, informed Miami sportscaster Josh Moser that Berrios would undergo an MRI on Monday to assess the extent of the injury. However, initial fears suggest that the injury could be substantial.
The 29-year-old Berrios, who serves as the Dolphins’ primary punt and kickoff returner, has not caught a pass this season but has been crucial in special teams. He signed his second consecutive one-year contract with the Dolphins this season and is set to become a free agent in March. Berrios has previously played for the New York Jets and New England Patriots.
The Dolphins confirmed the severity of the injury by placing Berrios on injured reserve on Monday. This move means he will miss at least four games, but it is anticipated that his absence will be much longer. To fill his roster spot, the Dolphins activated cornerback Cam Smith from injured reserve. Smith, who played in 15 games as a rookie last year, had been recovering from a hamstring injury sustained in August.
