Dominic Lovett Selected by Detroit Lions in 2025 NFL Draft

ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia wide receiver Dominic Lovett was selected by the Detroit Lions in the 2025 NFL Draft, marking an important milestone in his football career.
Lovett, who stands at 5 feet 10 inches and weighs 185 pounds, previously played two seasons at Missouri before transferring to Georgia ahead of the 2023 season. During his time with the Bulldogs, Lovett emerged as one of the most consistent receivers, finishing with impressive stats in both years.
In the 2023 season, Lovett recorded 54 catches for 613 yards and four touchdowns. He followed that up in 2024 with 59 receptions for 607 yards and six touchdowns, leading his team in both categories last year. His combination of speed, reflected by his 4.4-second time in the 40-yard dash, and experience on special teams makes him a valuable asset.
Head coach Kirby Smart praised Lovett for his toughness and willingness to contribute beyond just receiving duties. Lovett embraced his role on special teams as a gunner on the punt coverage unit, helping Georgia limit opponents to only 23 yards in punt returns during his tenure.
Reflecting on his approach to the game, Lovett emphasized the importance of a tough mentality, stating, “Kirby is kind of old-school… he wants the guy that’s going to block when they don’t have the ball.” This attitude helped him earn Smart’s respect and greatly contributed to his success at Georgia.
With the Lions, Lovett will compete for a spot on the roster alongside other receivers such as Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams. His unique skill set and determination could make him a key player for Detroit as they seek to enhance their offensive options.
Lovett’s journey from Missouri to Georgia has showcased his potential, and NFL scouts are optimistic about his ability to succeed at the professional level.
