Dominik Mysterio Wwe Intercontinental Champion Celebration

ARLINGTON, Texas — Dominik Mysterio is the new Intercontinental Champion after a thrilling four-way match at WWE WrestleMania 41 on April 20, 2025. Mysterio triumphed over Bron Breakker, Penta, and Finn Balor in a contest that showcased both talent and tension, particularly between Mysterio and his Judgment Day teammate Balor.

Mysterio secured the victory after a dramatic sequence where Balor appeared poised to win following his Coupe de Grace maneuver on Breakker. However, Dominik capitalized, diving from the opposite corner with a frog splash and pinning Balor to claim the championship. This marks Mysterio’s first reign as Intercontinental Champion.

Post-match, Dominik celebrated enthusiastically, climbing the turnbuckles to bask in the cheers of the crowd, only to return for an encore celebration that drew an even louder ovation.

Before the match, Dominik’s father, Rey Mysterio, expressed the significance of the title during a red carpet interview with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard. “Oh my God! That title is very historic. Some of the biggest legends of this industry have held that title prior to holding on a world title,” Rey said. “As a father, that would give me the biggest sense of pride to be able to see him as IC Champion. You have no idea.”

Despite his pride as a father, Rey Mysterio faced a different emotional landscape as a competitor. He was unable to compete in WrestleMania 41 due to a recent injury sustained during a panel appearance at WWE World.

This victory also ends Bron Breakker’s second stint as Intercontinental Champion, which lasted 181 days. Dominik Mysterio previously held the WWE Tag Team Championship and is a two-time NXT North American Champion. His journey culminated at WrestleMania, marking a significant milestone in the young star’s career.
