MIAMI, Fla. — Don Felder, former lead guitarist of the Eagles, was forced to leave the stage during a performance on the Rock Legends Cruise Thursday night due to a medical emergency. Felder, 77, experienced an episode of dehydration, prompting his management to assure fans he is feeling better.
According to Felder’s manager, Charlie Brusco, Felder was treated after feeling unwell during his show. “Don experienced a medical episode last night during the show. He received medical attention and was deemed to be suffering from dehydration,” Brusco told Fox News Digital. As per cruise medical protocol, Felder will be in quarantine for 24 hours to allow for recovery.
The incident occurred while Felder was performing the classic Eagles hit “Tequila Sunrise.” Audience members captured video footage showing the guitarist losing his balance and needing assistance from crew members. “We appreciate everyone’s concern regarding Don Felder’s abrupt stop to his show last night,” stated a message posted on Felder’s Instagram account. “He was given fluids and is feeling much better.”
Felder’s performances during the cruise will be rescheduled to ensure he has enough time to recuperate. His team concluded their message with a reminder to fans, saying, “Drink your water!” The Rock Legends Cruise, which departed from Miami on February 12, features performances from notable artists including Alice Cooper and Styx.
Felder, who joined the Eagles in 1974 and left the band in 2001, has had an illustrious career with the iconic rock group, known for hits like “Hotel California” and “Take It Easy.” The Eagles have sold over 150 million albums and are celebrated as one of the biggest acts in music history.
During a 2019 interview, Felder reflected on the creation of “Hotel California,” explaining, “I was fooling around on my guitar when the music just came out.” He expressed gratitude that the song was ultimately chosen as a single, a decision originally met with hesitation.
Despite their success, the Eagles faced internal conflicts that led to their break up in 1980, only to reunite in the 1990s. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998 and continues to influence rock music.
