During a recent appearance on the “Dan Bongino Show,” former U.S. President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump shared his perspective on the conviction of Harvey Weinstein, a former film producer found guilty of rape in 2020. Trump expressed his surprise at Weinstein receiving a severe punishment despite his Democratic affiliations, describing Weinstein as the “king of the woke.”

Democrats don’t have to be honest, they really don’t have to be honest, because they will never be accused of anything,” Trump stated during the interview. “I was so amazed that Harvey Weinstein got schlonged, he got hit as hard as you can get hit. Because he was sort of the king of the woke, right? And yet he got hit, and I figured, maybe, he wouldn’t get hit so hard.”

Trump also remarked on the broader aspect of Weinstein’s conviction, suggesting that it is rare for Democrats to face such severe consequences. “But boy—you don’t know him well, I don’t know him well, but I watched that and it was amazing. So when they do get hit, they get hit. But that’s the only one I can think of, normally they protect everybody,” he continued.

The former president’s previous comments on Weinstein have highlighted a personal element, noting that Weinstein opposed Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. “I was never a fan of Harvey Weinstein, as you know. In fact, he said he was gonna work hard to defeat me in the election,” Trump said, referencing Weinstein’s opposition.

In response to Trump’s remarks, Democratic representatives have accused him of lamenting Weinstein’s punishment, asserting that Trump was, in fact, criticizing Democrats and what he referred to as “the wokes.” This follows Trump’s history of using colorful language in political discussions, a style he has utilized in the past, like when referencing Hillary Clinton‘s 2008 primary loss.

The conviction of Harvey Weinstein played a significant role in the Me Too movement, which began in 2017 after numerous complaints of sexual misconduct were made against him. Though Weinstein’s conviction was overturned in 2014, the 2020 judgment represented a key moment in the fight against sexual exploitation in Hollywood and beyond.
