Donald Trump Secures Decisive Victory in 2024 Presidential Election Popular Vote
In the 2024 United States presidential election, Donald Trump achieved a significant victory, winning the national popular vote. According to the latest counts, Trump garnered nearly 3 million more votes than his Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris. This margin puts him on course to be the first Republican president in 20 years to win the popular vote.
Trump’s victory was marked by his improved performance across various demographics. He significantly enhanced his vote share among Hispanic voters and maintained strong support from his traditional constituency, including white male and white female voters. This diverse coalition helped him sweep all the swing states and secure a decisive win in the Electoral College.
Kamala Harris received 71 million votes, which is down from the 81 million votes Joe Biden secured in the 2020 presidential election. Despite losing key states, Harris performed well in traditionally liberal strongholds, though not enough to sway the overall outcome.
Experts have debunked claims that third-party votes were responsible for Trump’s victory, emphasizing that Trump outperformed Harris in both the popular vote and the Electoral College. Even if all third-party votes had gone to Harris, it would not have changed the outcome of the election in most states.
The election highlighted several key issues, with the economy being the single most important issue for voters. Other significant issues included healthcare, democracy, foreign policy, violent crime, immigration, gun policy, abortion, racial and ethnic inequality, and climate change.
