Luka Doncic Playing For The Los Angeles Lakers

Los Angeles, California – The Los Angeles Lakers fell to the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 1 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals on Saturday night at Crypto.com Arena. Guard Luka Doncic made a strong debut in his first playoff game with the Lakers, scoring 16 of his 37 points in the first quarter, giving his team an early edge.

Doncic, who shot 12-of-22 from the field, expressed his appreciation for the team’s fans despite the disappointing loss. “It was a great atmosphere,” he said after the game. “Sorry we couldn’t get the first win. But it’s always first to four. The crowd was amazing. They were cheering for us even when we were down, so I appreciate it.”

While Doncic’s performance was a highlight for the Lakers, he noted the need for improvement in playmaking after finishing the game with just one assist. “I try to set the tone but obviously one assist, that’s not good enough for me,” he admitted.

Lakers head coach JJ Redick acknowledged the team struggled to match the physical play of the Timberwolves, particularly in the second half. Doncic agreed, stating, “In the first quarter we played the way we play. We were playing physical, and then we just kind of let go of the rope. We have to be way more physical. It’s 48 minutes, and every possession matters.”

Looking ahead, Doncic remains hopeful for a turnaround in Game 2, scheduled for Tuesday. “I think just playing our game. Playing the way we know how to play,” he said. “Very physical, giving energy on the defense end, getting out in transition and playing our game.”

As one of the NBA’s top playoff performers, Doncic’s talents will be crucial for the Lakers as they aim to bounce back in the series. The team will need contributions from others to support Doncic in achieving their playoff aspirations.
