Double Diamond Beer Returns to British Pubs
Double Diamond, one of the most iconic beers from the mid-20th century, is making a comeback to British pubs, reviving memories for those with a penchant for nostalgia in their pint glass.
The beer is notable for its bright red logo featuring two large Ds, a symbol that became nearly as famous as the brand’s catchy slogans “Double Diamond works wonders” and “You’re only here for the beer.” These slogans echoed through the decades of the 1950s, 60s, and 70s, during which Double Diamond was a popular choice, first as the best-selling bottled beer in the country and later as one of the leading draught keg bitters.
Despite its popularity, Double Diamond faced declining sales in the 1980s due to increased competition from lagers and an expanding array of beer brands. However, the beer brand, originally brewed by Allsopp’s in 1876 at its Staffordshire location, is set for a revival. The brewer has announced, “It’s back, and it still works wonders,” promising patrons the familiar taste of Double Diamond once again.
Allsopp’s has undertaken extensive research and multiple trial recipes to ensure that the relaunched product meets the high expectations set by its history. Now revived as a 3.8% pale ale, Double Diamond is described as a “delicious, easy-going sessionable draft beer,” which will soon make its return to favorite local establishments across the country.
