Doug Kalitta Makes NHRA History at 1,000th Top Fuel Race

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Doug Kalitta secured a memorable victory at the NHRA American Rebel Light 4-Wide Nationals on Saturday, marking the 1,000th Top Fuel race in NHRA history. Kalitta dominated the Mission #2Fast2Tasty Challenge, winning the bonus race at zMAX Dragway and clinching the No. 1 qualifier position.
In a thrilling final quad, Kalitta finished with a time of 4.661 seconds at 237.92 mph, triumphing over competitors Antron Brown, Steve Torrence, and Josh Hart. This win is Kalitta’s second consecutive victory in the specialty event and reflects his consistent performance this season.
The achievement is particularly significant as it comes during a historic weekend for NHRA, celebrating a milestone in the sport. Kalitta highlighted the moment, stating, “I’m very fortunate with this opportunity. It’s a heck of an opportunity, and we’ll see what tomorrow brings.”
Other drivers also showcased their skills, with reigning Funny Car champion Austin Prock capturing the title in his division. Prock edged Spencer Hyde in a closely-fought final, finishing with a key reaction time advantage.
In Pro Stock, Matt Hartford claimed victory, further solidifying his reputation as a competitive racer this season. He finished with a 6.567 run at 210.37 mph, outpacing his teammate Greg Anderson.
Richard Gadson, competing in Pro Stock Motorcycle, also claimed a victory during the event, ensuring a successful day for his team. Eliminations are set to continue on Sunday, adding exciting anticipation to the ongoing event at zMAX Dragway.
