Douglas Coleman III Injured During Preseason Game Against the Chiefs
Douglas Coleman III, a safety for the Chicago Bears, was injured during the team’s final preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday night. The incident occurred early in the third quarter as Coleman attempted to tackle Chiefs wide receiver Cornell Powell.
After making contact, Coleman fell to the ground and remained motionless as players from both teams took a knee in respect while medical personnel attended to him. He was later placed on a stretcher and transported by a medical cart.
Players and coaches from the Bears gathered around to show their support, while fans at Arrowhead Stadium applauded as Coleman was carted off the field. Following the game, which the Bears won 34-21, head coach Matt Eberflus provided an update on Coleman’s condition.
Eberflus reported that Coleman had movement in his limbs and gave a thumbs-up gesture when attended to. He stated that Coleman had been taken to the hospital for further evaluation.
Douglas Coleman III, 26 years old, went undrafted in the 2020 NFL Draft after playing college football at Texas Tech. He played in the Canadian Football League (CFL) for the past two seasons before signing a futures contract with the Chicago Bears this offseason.
