Drake Maye Patriots Concussion Protocol

New England Patriots rookie quarterback Drake Maye is still in the concussion protocol, but there is optimism within the team that he might be ready to play against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. Maye suffered a concussion during the Patriots’ game against the New York Jets last week, which led to him being limited in practice this week as he awaits clearance from the medical staff.

According to Patriots offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt, Maye has shown significant improvement since the injury, although he was limited in practice. Van Pelt expressed hope that Maye could be ready for the game, stating, “We’re hopeful that he’ll go,” despite the cautious approach due to the concussion.

However, some analysts have warned against rushing Maye back onto the field too quickly. Bleacher Report‘s Brad Gagnon advised the Patriots to prioritize Maye’s safety, especially given the team’s non-contending status this season. Gagnon emphasized the risks of another concussion, citing the example of Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, and suggested that it would be beneficial for the Patriots to focus on developing Maye safely rather than risking further injury.

Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo also indicated that while Maye is still in the protocol, it is possible for him to be cleared in time for the game. Mayo’s comments reflect the team’s cautious but optimistic stance regarding Maye’s availability for the upcoming matchup against the Titans.
