Drama Unfolds as Kano Pillars Edge Rangers in NPFL Thriller
Rangers International FC, the reigning champions of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), experienced a shocking defeat in a thrilling seven-goal encounter with visiting Kano Pillars. The match concluded with a striking 4-3 victory for Kano Pillars at Rangers’ home ground, Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu.
Leading the charge for Kano Pillars was Ahmed Musa, the well-known Super Eagles captain, who recently rejoined the NPFL. Musa’s performance was instrumental in securing the victory for the “Sai Masu Gida,” contributing significantly to all goals scored by Kano Pillars.
The match took an electrifying start with Rabiu Ali netting two goals from the penalty spot in the 15th and 28th minutes respectively. Zulkifilu Rabiu added to the tally in the 37th minute, following a precise assist from Musa. The excitement continued as Musa himself scored in the first minute of added time, concluding the first half with a dominating 4-0 lead for Kano Pillars.
Rangers, known as the “Flying Antelopes,” rallied impressively in the second half. Isaac Saviour spearheaded the comeback attempt with two goals, narrowing the deficit. Emmanuel Silas Nenrot further reduced the gap, scoring the third goal for Rangers. Despite their efforts, the champions failed to salvage a result.
This victory propelled Kano Pillars to sixth place in the league standings, adding a crucial win to their campaign this season. Other matches across the league saw varying results. In Lafia, Lobi Stars, under coach Daniel Amokachi, settled for a 2-2 draw against El-kanemi Warriors, while Nasarawa United decisively defeated Abia Warriors 3-0, with Anas Yusuf scoring all three goals. Kwara United also triumphed over Sunshine Stars with a 3-0 win in Ilorin.
Enyimba, former league champions, concluded their match against Niger Tornadoes with a 1-1 draw, with goals from Joseph Godstime and Ufere Chinedu punctuating the game. This sixth round of matches keeps the NPFL standings dynamic and competitive.
This dramatic victory for Kano Pillars signifies their robust return to form, largely attributed to Ahmed Musa’s impactful performances since his return to the local league.
