COLLEGE PARK, Md. — The 2025 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament continues to thrill fans as teams fight for a spot in the coveted Sweet 16. This Saturday marks the kickoff of the second round with exciting matchups, leading into crucial contests for aspiring champions.

Purdue advanced with a strong performance against McNeese, securing a 76-62 victory led by Trey Kaufman-Renn, who scored 22 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. Fletcher Loyer and C.J. Cox contributed with 15 and 11 points, respectively. Coach Matt Painter celebrated his eighth Sweet 16 appearance in 16 NCAA tournaments, as the Boilermakers now face either top-seeded Houston or eighth-seeded Gonzaga in the next round.

Meanwhile, Arkansas provided its own impressive display, knocking out St. John's 75-66. John Calipari‘s Razorbacks emerged victorious after previously defeating Kansas, with Billy Richmond III scoring 16 points and Karter Knox adding 15. Zuby Ejiofor was the standout for St. John’s, finishing with 23 points and 12 rebounds.

The Michigan Wolverines made a surprising run after struggling last season. They defeated Texas A&M 91-79, thanks to Roddy Gayle‘s explosive second-half performance, scoring 21 out of his season-high 26 points after halftime.

In a tightly contested matchup, Texas Tech triumphed over Drake 77-64, propelled by Darrion Williams‘ season-high 28 points. The Red Raiders will now take on Arkansas in the West Region semifinals.

Auburn also secured its position in the Sweet 16 after an 82-70 victory over Creighton. Bruce Pearl‘s team is seeing renewed success, with Tahaad Pettiford scoring 23 points, including a crucial second-half contribution during a game-changing run.

BYU‘s thrilling game against Wisconsin marked a significant moment in the tournament, as the Cougars clinched a 91-89 victory, their first Sweet 16 appearance since 2011. John Tonje led the Badgers with 37 points, but his fadeaway airball miss at the buzzer sealed the win for BYU after they maintained a strong lead through the match.

On the other side of the bracket, Houston held off Gonzaga with a close 81-76 win, marked by LJ Cryer‘s strong performance with 30 points, securing the Cougars’ sixth consecutive Sweet 16 appearance.

The action continues as teams battle for the ultimate goal—reaching the Final Four and ultimately fighting for the championship in Tampa this April. Fans can expect an exhilarating tournament ahead with each passing game.
