Drew Brees Joe Burrow Nfl Interview

NEW ORLEANS, La. — In the buildup to Super Bowl 59, former NFL quarterback Drew Brees identified Cincinnati Bengals star Joe Burrow as the modern quarterback who most resembles him during an interview conducted in collaboration with the Stacking the Box podcast.

During the interview, Brees, an all-time great and Super Bowl champion himself, was asked which current quarterbacks remind him of his playing style. Without hesitation, he pointed to Burrow, who recently concluded one of the most impressive seasons of his career.

"The first one that came to mind when you said that was Joe Burrow," Brees said. "Joe Burrow played at LSU right down the street. He played at the same time when I was playing with the Saints."

Brees noted the similarities in the offensive systems they both operated, highlighting how Burrow’s experience running a pro-style offense at LSU equipped him well for the NFL. "Actually, the offense that he ran (in college) was the exact same offense we ran. So, watching him operate within our offense, it was like, okay, I see him doing a lot of the same things that I would do, or that we do," he explained.

Burrow’s smooth transition into the league hasn’t gone unnoticed, and Brees emphasized that his success in college was a significant advantage over other prospects entering the NFL.

During the discussion, Brees also highlighted the underrated aspects of Burrow’s playstyle. "The style of quarterback that he is … he’s an excellent pocket passer, certainly athletic enough to be able to get outside the pocket and make a ton of plays. In fact, I think he does that quite a bit and doesn’t get the credit for it that he deserves," said Brees.

As the Bengals look to maintain their core roster, Brees expressed hope that Burrow will receive the MVP recognition he deserves in the future.

Meanwhile, Burrow’s presence in the league continues to draw attention, especially as the upcoming season unfolds. His ability to adapt and execute in high-pressure situations could further elevate his status among football’s elite.
