MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Dug McDaniel, a former starting point guard for the Michigan Wolverines, announced Thursday that he will transfer to the University of Memphis for his senior season. After playing at Kansas State last year, McDaniel is ready to tackle his final year of college basketball with the Tigers.

During his college career, McDaniel has shown strong productivity, averaging 11.8 points, 4.4 assists, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.3 steals over 92 games. His shooting percentages stand at 39 percent overall and 33 percent from beyond the arc.

McDaniel entered Michigan’s starting lineup in December 2021 after an injury to Jaelin Llewellyn. He maintained his starting position until the end of his time in Ann Arbor following the 2023-24 season. McDaniel entered the transfer portal shortly after head coach Juwan Howard was dismissed.

In his time at Kansas State, he started 23 games, averaging 11.4 points per game, even though he struggled with his three-point shooting, hitting just 26 percent. Kansas State finished the season with a 16-17 record and missed the NCAA Tournament.

McDaniel, a native of Washington, D.C., had standout performances against top teams in the Big 12, scoring 15, 24, and 22 points in consecutive games against Kansas, Arizona, and BYU, respectively.

Meanwhile, Michigan men’s basketball is looking to enhance its nonconference schedule. Reports indicate that Michigan and Duke are nearing an agreement to play in Washington, D.C., in February. Their last matchup took place on December 3, 2013. This upcoming game is set to be hosted at Capital One Arena.

Under head coach Jon Scheyer, Duke had an impressive season, finishing 35-4 and reaching the Final Four. Meanwhile, Michigan had a strong showing as well, winning the Big Ten Tournament and making it to the Sweet 16.

As Michigan prepares for next season with changes in the roster and schedule, the team will play at TCU, face Wake Forest in Detroit, and participate in the Players Era Festival in Las Vegas.
