Duke Baseball Names Corey Muscara as New Head Coach

DURHAM, N.C. — The Duke baseball team has appointed Corey Muscara as its new head coach, succeeding Chris Pollard, who departed for the University of Virginia. Muscara, who served as Wake Forest‘s pitching coach for the past four seasons, becomes the 26th coach in Duke’s program history.
“We are thrilled to welcome Corey Muscara as the next head coach of Duke Baseball,” said Nina King, Duke’s Athletics Director, in a statement. “Corey is one of the most respected pitching minds in the country, and his track record of developing elite student-athletes while competing at the highest levels speaks for itself.”
Muscara’s achievements at Wake Forest include being named D1Baseball’s Assistant Coach of the Year in 2023 after helping the Demon Deacons to a program-record 54 wins. Under his guidance, the team led the nation in multiple pitching statistics, including earned run average (2.83) and strikeout-to-walk ratio (4.26).
Before his tenure at Wake Forest, Muscara was the pitching coach at Maryland and served as an assistant at St. John's. His experience spans over 15 years, with a strong focus on developing top-tier pitching talent.
“I am incredibly honored and excited to join the Duke community and lead the Blue Devils’ baseball program,” Muscara said. “This is a truly special opportunity to build on the program’s success and compete for championships at one of the premier academic and athletic institutions in the country.”
Muscara is known for his ability to mold pitchers, including notable success with Rhett Lowder at Wake Forest, who won ACC Pitcher of the Year and was selected seventh overall in the MLB draft by the Cincinnati Reds. As he prepares to lead Duke, Muscara looks to rejuvenate the team and build on its recent successes.
