Duke Basketball Team 2025 Season Opener

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Duke’s star recruit, Jalen Boozer, bounced back from a rough first half to lead the Blue Devils to a victory against Texas in their season opener on Tuesday night at the Dick Vitale Invitational.

Despite entering halftime with no points, Boozer finished the game with 15 points and 13 rebounds, dominating the second half to help Duke secure a 73-65 win.

Duke head coach Jon Scheyer challenged Boozer at the break, urging him to play more assertively. Boozer responded by regaining his rhythm and contributing significantly after the intermission, including scoring nine free throws in the second half alone.

“I just tried to wash it off,” Boozer said about his sluggish start. “Coach gave me the challenge, and I knew I had to step up.”

Texas coach Sean Miller praised Boozer’s performance post-game, calling him “one of the best players in the country” and noted his ability to rebound effectively in college basketball’s demanding environment.

Boozer’s impact extended beyond scoring; he also provided three assists, two steals, and a block, showcasing his versatility throughout the game. This performance hints at his potential as a lottery pick in the upcoming NBA draft.

“He’s just a competitor and a winner,” Scheyer said. “That ability to flip the switch is special.”

The victory sets a positive tone for Duke as they move forward in the 2025 season.
