Duke Football Coach Social Media Team Youth Movement

Durham, North Carolina — Duke football head coach Manny Diaz recently took time to discuss the team’s early season turnaround with the social media team. The Blue Devils, after a bye week, have improved from a 1-2 start to a 4-2 record halfway through the season, largely thanks to a youth movement.

Diaz noted that injuries and opportunities have allowed several young players to step into key roles. One moment that stood out was during a second-quarter sequence, which Diaz called “the turning point of the entire game.” Senior defensive back was crucial in forcing a play that led to a turnover and allowed freshman safety to return the interception, setting up a game-tying drive.

From that point, Diaz explained, the defense took control. The coach emphasized the importance of veterans like Wes Williams, who helped create opportunities for younger players to succeed, including Elliot Schaper, who finished with a sack.

Diaz highlighted how the team designed plays specifically to counter the opposing quarterback’s strengths. Veteran players like VJ Anthony and Schaper executed the game plan effectively, leading to more defensive successes. The coach praised players’ measurables and determination, stating that they could make big plays when seniors did their jobs.

As the film session continued, Diaz pointed out several promising freshman moments, highlighting the necessity of teamwork in getting the sack and turnovers. He affirmed this theme of “old guys doing their job, young guys making plays,” a mantra that he expressed with enthusiasm.

Duke will host No. 13 next week at Wallace Wade Stadium, looking to build on their recent success.
