Duke Faces Army in Anticipated Veteran’s Day Basketball Matchup
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Duke Blue Devils are set to take on the Army West Point Black Knights at 7 p.m. on November 11, 2025. The game, which coincides with Veteran's Day, honors those who volunteer to serve and highlights the historical connection Duke shares with West Point through legendary coach Mike Krzyzewski.
Coach K, a 1969 West Point graduate, has spoken fondly of the military academy and its discipline, which he believes shaped his coaching philosophies at Duke. While Duke enters the game as a heavily favored ranked team, facing Army presents its own challenges.
The Black Knights boast a roster with significant experience, featuring three seniors and two juniors, compared to Duke’s younger lineup. Their upperclassmen hold a crucial role in instilling the values and discipline learned at the service academy.
Christl Arena, with a seating capacity of just 5,043, will likely be filled with enthusiastic cadets. Their support could create a challenging atmosphere for Duke, especially as the Army team builds off last season’s success, including a trip to the CBI quarterfinals under Coach Kevin Kuwik.
Kuwik, in his second year, has molded a roster that includes nine sophomores and four freshmen, highlighting a blend of youth and coaching experience gained from time with notable programs. Early season performances show promise, with Army winning its opener against SUNY-Maritime 73-49.
While Duke’s roster includes NBA-level talent like Cameron Boozer, keeping momentum is vital for both teams. Coach Jon Scheyer has emphasized the need to improve rebounding after previous struggles against Texas and Western Carolina.
This matchup is not just a test of talent; it reflects the discipline and teamwork that service academies like Army instill in their athletes. As both teams prepare for the showdown, respect for Army’s culture and resilience will be essential as Duke aims to secure a victory.
