CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WBTV) – Duke freshman Isaiah Evans delivered a standout performance on Monday night, helping his team secure an 80-62 victory over Virginia. The former North Mecklenburg star showcased his shooting prowess, going 6-for-7 from the field, including an impressive 5-for-6 from three-point range.

Evans’ 17 points tied him with fellow freshmen Cooper Flagg and Kon Kneuppel as the team’s leading scorers for the game. His scorching shooting streak included five consecutive three-pointers before he finally missed with 8:51 remaining in the second half.

This game marked Evans’ seventh outing with double-digit scoring this season, bringing him just one point shy of his career-high of 18, which he achieved in a previous game against Auburn. In that match, he also displayed his three-point accuracy, finishing 6-for-8 from behind the arc.

On the season, Evans is maintaining an impressive shooting percentage of 45%, leading the Blue Devils in scoring efficiency. His performance continues to affirm his recognition as the 2023-2024 Gatorade North Carolina Player of the Year, a title that underscores his talent and contributions on the court.

Duke’s victory against Virginia not only enhances their season record but also showcases the strong performance of their freshman class, pivotal in their campaign.
