Dutch Teen Cyclist Rosita Reijnhout Wins Shock Solo Victory at Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race
Dutch teenage cyclist Rosita Reijnhout has secured an astonishing solo win at the prestigious Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race. The 19-year-old rider from Team Visma displayed impeccable timing, launching her attack at the perfect moment, and held on to claim her maiden WorldTour victory in Geelong. Reijnhout broke away from her fellow leaders, Dominika Wlodarczyk of UAE Team ADQ and Danish star Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig from FDJ Suez, with just 4 kilometers remaining after the trio had pulled clear 1 kilometer earlier.
Both Wlodarczyk and Uttrup Ludwig gave chase with fierce determination, and had the race stretched a mere 50 meters further, they would have reeled in the young Dutch sensation. However, Reijnhout demonstrated remarkable resilience and managed to secure the win in her second season at the WorldTour level.
The FDJ Suez team’s Grace Brown achieved the highest Australian finish, crossing the line in fifth place. Unfortunately, Amanda Spratt, another prominent contender before the race, was forced to withdraw at the last minute. Spratt spent the previous night in the hospital due to a kidney stone, which necessitated her absence from the competition.
Lidl-Trek faced another setback as their Australian rider, Lauretta Hanson, withdrew from the race promptly after the start due to illness. Notably, the team clarified that the two withdrawals were unrelated.
