Eagles Acquire Jahan Dotson from Commanders in Notable Trade
The Philadelphia Eagles have strengthened their wide receiver lineup by acquiring Jahan Dotson from the Washington Commanders in a trade on Thursday. The deal includes the Eagles sending a third-round pick and two seventh-round picks in the 2025 NFL Draft in return for Dotson and a 2025 fifth-round draft pick.
Jahan Dotson, selected as the 16th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, has showcased his quickness and explosiveness during his time with the Commanders. In his rookie season, he recorded 35 receptions, accumulating 523 yards and seven touchdowns over 12 games. In 2023, he improved his performance with 49 receptions for 518 yards and four touchdowns.
The Eagles view Dotson as a valuable addition to their offensive lineup, which already features talented receivers such as A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, as well as tight end Dallas Goedert and running back Saquon Barkley. With quarterback Jalen Hurts leading the offense, Dotson’s speed—marked by a 4.43 seconds in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine—adds a crucial element to their passing game.
Dotson had a notable performance last season when he faced the Eagles, recording eight receptions for 108 yards, including a touchdown. Despite struggles with a hamstring injury during his rookie season, he was honored twice as the Pepsi NFC Rookie of the Week.
During his college career at Penn State, Dotson made a significant impact, racking up 183 receptions for 2,757 yards along with 25 touchdowns in just 42 games. He earned All-American honors in his final collegiate season and set records, including a remarkable 242 receiving yards in a single game against Maryland.
In addition to his receiving skills, Dotson excelled in the return game, achieving a 24.6-yard average for punt returns during his time at Penn State, further establishing his playmaker profile during his college tenure.
