Eagles, Chiefs Clash in Historic Super Bowl Rematch
NEW ORLEANS, La. — The Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs are set to face off in Super Bowl LIX on February 9, 2025, in a highly anticipated rematch of their 2022 showdown. The Eagles aim to secure their second Super Bowl title, while the Chiefs seek to become the first team in the Super Bowl era to win back-to-back championships.
This marks the second time in three seasons the two teams will meet on the NFL’s biggest stage. Kansas City defeated Philadelphia 38-35 in Super Bowl LVII, capping the 2022 season. The matchup also represents the second-shortest span between Super Bowl meetings for two teams, trailing only the Dallas Cowboys and Buffalo Bills, who faced off in consecutive Super Bowls in 1992 and 1993.
The Chiefs, led by head coach Andy Reid, enter the game with a 15-2 record, having dominated the AFC. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes posted a career-high 67.5% completion percentage, throwing for 3,928 yards and 26 touchdowns during the regular season. Running back Isiah Pacheco added 728 rushing yards and seven touchdowns, while tight end Travis Kelce recorded 97 catches for 823 yards and three touchdowns.
Defensively, linebacker Nick Bolton led the team with 106 total tackles, and defensive tackle Chris Jones contributed 8.0 sacks. The Chiefs boast four Super Bowl victories in seven appearances and hold a 6-5 all-time record against the Eagles, including a 4-1 record under Reid.
Philadelphia, under head coach Nick Sirianni, finished the 2024 season with a 14-3 record, securing second place in the NFC. Quarterback Jalen Hurts had a standout year, completing 68.7% of his passes for 2,903 yards and 18 touchdowns, while also rushing for 630 yards and 14 touchdowns. Running back D'Andre Swift led the NFL with 345 carries and 2,005 rushing yards, adding 13 touchdowns. Wide receiver A.J. Brown was a key target, amassing 1,079 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.
On defense, linebacker Nakobe Dean recorded 151 total tackles, and defensive end Haason Reddick matched Jones with 8.0 sacks. The Eagles have one Super Bowl victory in five appearances and hold a 5-6 all-time record against the Chiefs, including a win in their last meeting during Week 11 of the 2023 season.
Andy Reid, the winningest head coach in both franchises’ histories, will face his former team once again. Reid, who coached the Eagles from 1999 to 2012, has a 143-53 record with the Chiefs since 2013. The game promises to be a historic clash between two powerhouse teams vying for football supremacy.
