Eagles Debut as Defending Champs Against Cowboys in 2025 NFL Opener

PHILADELPHIA, PA — The 2025 NFL season kicks off tonight as the Philadelphia Eagles host the Dallas Cowboys in an NFC East rivalry matchup. The game marks the Eagles’ first chance to defend their Super Bowl title, with kickoff scheduled for 8:20 PM ET on NBC.
Headlining the Eagles’ roster, quarterback Jalen Hurts returns after a stellar previous season where he was named Super Bowl MVP. Hurts emphasizes the need for the team to focus on the present, stating, “Whatever we did last year, that’s in the rearview mirror and now it doesn’t matter anymore.”
Despite their championship success, the Eagles are adjusting to changes within the team. They have a new offensive coordinator, Kevin Patullo, who steps in following Kellen Moore’s promotion to head coach of the New Orleans Saints. “It’s a new journey,” Hurts added. “The past is behind us, and the future is too far away.”
On the other side, the Cowboys aim to improve from a disappointing 7-10 season. Dallas is without key player Micah Parsons, traded to the Green Bay Packers in a deal that brought three-time Pro Bowler Kenny Clark to the Cowboys. The departure of Parsons has generated concerns over the Cowboys’ defense, which will be led this season by new head coach Brian Schottenheimer.
Quarterback Dak Prescott, recovering from injuries that previously sidelined him, will be pivotal to Dallas’ success this year. Prescott’s health has been an ongoing concern, as he has missed significant game time over the last several seasons.
As both teams prepare for what promises to be an electrifying opener, Eagles fans eagerly await the unveiling of their championship banner. The Eagles are currently favored by eight points in the matchup according to BetMGM, setting the stage for a thrilling start to the NFL season.
