Eagles Face Injury Concerns Ahead of NFC Championship Game
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — The Philadelphia Eagles are grappling with key injury concerns as they prepare to host the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday. Tight end Dallas Goedert (ankle) and center Cam Jurgens (back) were notably absent from full practice on Thursday, raising questions about their availability for the critical matchup.
Goedert, who leads the Eagles in postseason receiving with 8 catches for 103 yards, was seen catching passes on the sideline but did not participate in drills. Jurgens, a Pro Bowl center in his first full season replacing Jason Kelce, was not present during the portion of practice open to reporters. Both players were listed as “DNP” (Did Not Participate) on the team’s estimated injury report earlier in the week.
“It’s a big loss if Cam can’t go,” said head coach Nick Sirianni. “But we’ve got guys who are ready to step up.” Pro Bowl left guard Landon Dickerson took reps at center during practice, with Tyler Steen filling in at left guard. If Jurgens is unable to play, the Eagles’ offensive line is expected to feature Jordan Mailata, Steen, Dickerson, Mekhi Becton, and Lane Johnson from left to right.
Goedert’s potential absence would elevate backup tight end Grant Calcaterra to the starting role. Goedert has been instrumental in both the passing and running games, serving as a key blocker and reliable target for quarterback Jalen Hurts.
Meanwhile, several other Eagles players who were listed as limited earlier in the week participated fully in Thursday’s practice. Quarterback Jalen Hurts (knee), cornerback Quinyon Mitchell (shoulder), and wide receivers AJ Brown (knee/rest) and Britain Covey (neck) were among those who took part. Hurts, who sustained a knee injury in the divisional round win over the Los Angeles Rams, is expected to play but may be limited in his mobility.
The Eagles advanced to the NFC Championship Game with a thrilling 28-22 victory over the Rams last Sunday. Running back Saquon Barkley delivered a standout performance, rushing for 205 yards and two touchdowns, including a 78-yard score that sealed the win. The defense also stepped up, with rookie Jalen Carter recording two sacks and a forced fumble.
“We’re here for the long run,” Carter said after the game. “There’s only one goal — win that Super Bowl.”
The Eagles and Commanders will face off for the third time this season, with Philadelphia looking to secure a spot in Super Bowl LIX. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. ET at Lincoln Financial Field.
