Zack Baun Philadelphia Eagles Interception 2024

PHILADELPHIA – Zack Baun, the Philadelphia Eagles‘ standout linebacker, made a pivotal interception in Sunday’s wild-card playoff game against the Green Bay Packers, solidifying his value as the team faces critical offseason decisions. Baun, a pending free agent, has emerged as a key player in the Eagles’ defense under coordinator Vic Fangio.

Baun’s interception came with less than a minute left in the first half, as he peeled off his coverage of tight end Tucker Kraft to pick off Packers quarterback Jordan Love. The play helped the Eagles secure a 10-0 lead en route to a 22-10 victory, advancing them to the divisional round against the Los Angeles Rams.

“It’s a dream interception,” Baun said after the game. “It’s about the freedom and trust I’ve earned from my teammates and Coach Fangio.” Baun, who signed a one-year deal with the Eagles after spending four seasons with the New Orleans Saints, has flourished in Fangio’s system, earning first-team All-Pro honors this season.

Baun’s rise has been a surprise even to Fangio, who initially envisioned him as a backup outside linebacker. “I think he’s exceeded most everyone’s expectations, probably even himself,” Fangio said. “But now there are no limitations. He’s set a standard for himself.”

Teammates have also praised Baun’s work ethic and versatility. “He’s worked his (expletive) off,” said fellow linebacker Oren Burks. “It’s been cool to see a team guy playing a lot more on defense and taking advantage of the opportunity.”

Baun’s future with the Eagles remains uncertain as free agency approaches. “I want to stay here,” Baun said, acknowledging the unique culture of Philadelphia. “But everything has to work out, and it takes two to tango.”

Other Eagles players, including defensive tackle Milton Williams and cornerback Isaiah Rodgers, are also facing free agency. Williams, having the best season of his career, expressed a desire to remain in Philadelphia. “The Philly culture, the Philly fans, the media – they make you play harder,” Williams said.

Rodgers, meanwhile, is approaching each playoff game as if it could be his last. “It’s harder for people like me, upcoming free agents, where now these games are win or go home,” he said.

As the Eagles prepare for their next playoff challenge, Baun’s performance will be crucial, especially with the loss of linebacker Nakobe Dean to a knee injury. “We’re gonna have people step in,” said defensive end Josh Sweat. “But we’d love to have Nakobe for sure.”

For now, Baun remains focused on the task at hand. “I just kind of did it,” he said of earning Fangio’s trust. “It’s there now.”
