East Carolina’s Mazzie Named Special Teams Player of the Week

IRVING, Texas – East Carolina kicker Jake Mazzie has been named the American Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday. This recognition follows a strong performance that contributed to the Pirates’ 41-27 victory over Tulsa on October 20, 2025.
Mazzie achieved a career-high 11 points during the game, successfully connecting on two field goals and five extra-point attempts, bringing his season total to an impressive 18 for 18. He opened the scoring for ECU with a 37-yard field goal in the first quarter and later added a 32-yard kick, solidifying the Pirates’ 10-point lead in the fourth quarter.
Quarterback Mason Houser also excelled, passing for 300 yards while completing 21 of 38 attempts with two touchdown passes. The California native not only threw for scores of 66 and 63 yards but also rushed for a two-yard touchdown, marking his 10th career rushing touchdown.
During the game, Houser connected on four passes for 15 yards or more, showcasing the offensive strength of the Pirates. With this win, East Carolina improved to two conference wins for the season.
East Carolina is set to observe its second off week of the year before returning to action on Saturday, November 1, against Temple. The kickoff time for that matchup has yet to be determined by the league.
