Edgar Berlanga Boxing Match March 2025

Orlando, Florida — Edgar Berlanga is set to make his return to the boxing ring on March 15, facing Jonathan Gonzalez-Ortiz in a co-feature bout at the Caribe Royale. This fight follows Berlanga’s recent defeat to Canelo Alvarez and is a critical opportunity for the 27-year-old boxer to reclaim his status in the super-middleweight division.

Berlanga, known as “The Chosen One,” holds a record of 22 wins and 1 loss, with 17 of those victories coming by knockout. After being dropped in the third round against Alvarez last September, Berlanga is eager to get back on track and aims to demonstrate his skills against the unbeaten Gonzalez-Ortiz, who has a record of 20-0-1, including 16 knockouts.

The event, which will be available for streaming on DAZN, begins at 7 p.m. ET, with Berlanga and Gonzalez-Ortiz expected to enter the ring around 10 p.m. ET. Fans can subscribe monthly to DAZN for $19.99 on a 12-month contract or $24.99 month-to-month.

Berlanga began boxing at the age of 7, achieving notable success in the U.S. Youth National Championships. His career skyrocketed with a string of victories, including impressive knockouts over Jason Quigley and Padraig McCrory after signing with Matchroom Boxing. However, his recent loss to Alvarez has led to questions about his future and potential matchups.

Gonzalez-Ortiz, a 35-year-old Puerto Rican fighter, has made his comeback after a nearly ten-year hiatus from the sport, winning two bouts in 2024. Despite concerns regarding his lengthy break from the ring, Berlanga is not taking him lightly. “I’m not overlooking this man, he’s coming to win,” Berlanga stated. “He’s Puerto Rican, and he has that Puerto Rican blood in him. So, I know he’s coming to fight.”

Team Berlanga, including his coach Marc Farrait, believes this matchup is vital for Berlanga’s development. Farrait remarked, “I think every fight serves some form of purpose. When you’re in the ring, you’re going to learn something… It’s more about the mental preparation and being ready.” Berlanga also recognizes the stakes of this fight, aiming not only for a victory but to secure his position for more lucrative bouts against prominent fighters like Jermall Charlo, Jaime Munguia, and Caleb Plant later this year.

While Berlanga is determined to shine after a tough loss, the pressure is mounting as he prepares to face a determined Gonzalez-Ortiz. Gonzalez-Ortiz expressed confidence in his abilities, stating, “I’ve prepared hard for this fight, and I believe I can show everyone why I am still undefeated.” The matchup promises to be exciting, with both fighters eager to prove themselves in the ring.
