Edmonton Oilers Trade for Defenceman Troy Stecher from Coyotes
The Edmonton Oilers have made a significant move in the NHL trade market, acquiring defenceman Troy Stecher from the Arizona Coyotes. The trade also includes a seventh-round pick in the upcoming 2024 draft heading to Edmonton, in exchange for a fourth-round pick in 2027.
The deal, confirmed by TSN’s trusted reporter Ryan Rishaug, indicates that no salary is being retained in this transaction, highlighting a strategic move by both teams.
Stecher, a 29-year-old defenseman, brings a wealth of experience to the Oilers’ blue line. In the current season, he has appeared in 47 games, contributing with one goal and four assists. Despite a recent lower-body injury that sidelined him for several weeks, Stecher is back in action and poised to make an impact with his new team.
Originally hailing from Richmond, British Columbia, Stecher began his NHL career with the Detroit Red Wings. After his time in Detroit, he ventured to the Calgary Flames and then to the Los Angeles Kings. The versatile player made a return to the Flames before this trade to the Oilers, showcasing his adaptability and value across different NHL franchises.
With 487 career games under his belt, Stecher has proven to be a reliable defenseman on the ice, tallying 19 goals and 89 assists for a total of 108 points. His presence on the Oilers’ roster is expected to bolster their defensive core and provide valuable support as they push towards a playoff spot.
