Edmonton Weather Braces For Extreme Cold Following Snowstorm

The city of Edmonton is preparing for a week ahead filled with frigid temperatures and icy weather conditions following a significant snowstorm that hit the region over the weekend. The Edmonton Blatchford weather station reported current temperatures of around -20 C with a wind chill making it feel closer to -29 C, posing a high risk of frostbite for residents.

Despite the heavy snowfall and extreme weather experienced earlier, the warning alerts have been rescinded on Monday morning for Edmonton and its surrounding areas. While the worst of the storm seems to be over, citizens are advised to exercise caution as the bitter cold lingers, coupled with intense winds making it feel even colder.

Residents of Edmonton woke up to a winter wonderland blanketed with 10-20 cm of snow following the storm that began on Sunday. The city has since implemented a Phase 1 parking ban starting at 7 p.m. to facilitate snow clearing operations along major roadways and bus routes.

As the city faces the aftermath of the snowstorm, efforts are underway to keep vulnerable members safe during the harsh weather conditions. The extreme weather response, set to continue until March 1 at 8 a.m., aims to ensure that Edmontonians at risk have access to shelter and support during the cold spell.
