PITTSBURGH, Pa. — The Pittsburgh Steelers have lost inside linebacker Elandon Roberts to the Las Vegas Raiders as he agrees to a one-year, $3 million contract.

Roberts, who spent the last two seasons with the Steelers, is transitioning from Pittsburgh’s black and gold colors to the Raiders’ black and silver. This move comes after former Steeler Robert Spillane signed with the Raiders earlier in the day.

According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, Roberts is expected to help fill the defensive void left by Spillane. He began his career with the New England Patriots and played under former defensive coordinator Brian Flores during his time with the Miami Dolphins from 2020 to 2022.

During his tenure with the Steelers, Roberts recorded 147 total tackles across 33 games, including 29 starts. His contributions to the team included 15 tackles for a loss and 3.5 sacks, showcasing his capabilities as a reliable linebacker.

“Elandon was a key player for us last season, bringing stability to the linebacker position,” a team spokesperson said. “His ability to stay healthy through the entire season was significant, and we appreciate his contributions.”

Last season, Roberts was one of three Steelers inside linebackers who played regularly, alongside Patrick Queen and Payton Wilson. The Steelers’ decision to retain Cole Holcomb limited the prospects of Roberts returning for another season.

“With the depth we have at linebacker now, we are excited about what the future holds for Payton Wilson,” the spokesperson added. “He could have a larger role moving forward.”

Roberts’ impact on the field was notable, as he consistently performed at a high level, adapting to different teammates and overcoming injuries within the unit. He played alongside various players throughout the season, including Cole Holcomb and Kwon Alexander.

As the NFL’s legal tampering period began, Roberts was one of several former Steelers who signed with different teams. Offensive tackle Dan Moore Jr. is headed to the Tennessee Titans, while running back Najee Harris and cornerback Donte Jackson have signed with the Los Angeles Chargers. Additionally, quarterback Justin Fields has joined the New York Jets, and offensive guard James Daniels is headed to the Miami Dolphins.

The Steelers will now look to bolster their roster ahead of the upcoming season, with a focus on the linebacker position where Roberts has made his mark.
