Ellis Myles Named Head Coach at The Academy at Shawnee

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Ellis Myles, a former standout player at the University of Louisville, has been appointed head coach of the boys’ basketball team at The Academy at Shawnee. This announcement marks a significant step for the school as it seeks to elevate its basketball program.

In a statement, the Academy praised Myles as a “legend” and a “respected leader in the basketball community.” The school expressed excitement about his potential to guide their boys’ team into a new era focused on growth and success.

Myles’ experience as a Cardinal is notable. Over four seasons, he averaged 8.9 points and 8 rebounds per game, starting in 110 out of 124 career games. The 43-year-old played under legendary coaches Denny Crum and Rick Pitino and was part of the team that reached the Final Four in 2005. After his playing career, he served as the team’s assistant strength and conditioning coach from 2007 to 2009.

Before joining The Academy at Shawnee, Myles coached boys’ basketball at Fern Creek from 2022 to 2024. The Academy is optimistic about his impact, stating, “We can’t wait to see the energy, pride and excellence he brings to our program.”
