Emerging Stars in Men’s College Basketball Surge This Season
INDIANAPOLIS, IN—As the men’s college basketball season progresses, several players have emerged as breakout stars, significantly increasing their production compared to last year. With every player on the list averaging at least twice as many points as last season, their performances are catching the attention of NBA scouts.
Among the standout performers is Cameron Carr of Baylor. After an injury-plagued time at Tennessee, Carr transferred to Baylor and has taken full advantage of the opportunity to play, averaging 23.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks per game this season. He began the season with a stunning 28-point performance against Texas-Rio Grande Valley, establishing himself as a potential first-round pick.
Another player making waves is Xavier Booker. After a disappointing two years at Michigan State, the 6’11” forward has found his place at UCLA, averaging 10.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game. Coach Mick Cronin has utilized him primarily as a center, leading to improved efficiency and a higher impact on the game. In just four games, he has also surpassed his previous season high in assists.
Wake Forest‘s Juke Harris is another breakout star this season. After scoring in double figures only five times in his freshman year, he has dramatically raised his game. Averaging 20.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game, Harris recorded a career-high 29 points against Morehead State, highlighting his potential as a future star.
Collin Chandler from Kentucky is also emerging as a key player. Averaging 11.3 points and leading his team in blocks, Chandler’s scoring has increased significantly from his freshman year. Despite Kentucky’s struggles early in the season, he has been a bright spot for the Wildcats.
As the season progresses, many of these athletes are expected to play a crucial role in the NCAA tournament and beyond. Their performances not only impact their teams but also create excitement for the upcoming NBA draft.
