London, England — Arsenal is reportedly interested in re-signing Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano “Dibu” Martínez as speculation grows about the future of current number one David Raya.

The British tabloid The Sun claims that the Gunners are preparing an emergency transfer to bring back Martínez, who played for Arsenal for eight years before joining Aston Villa in 2020. Since his move to Villa, the 32-year-old has emerged as one of the top goalkeepers in the Premier League.

Martínez left Arsenal after several loan spells and a brief period of recognition under coach Mikel Arteta. According to The Sun, “the veteran goalkeeper would be thrilled to finally become the number one for the Gunners,” suggesting mutual interest between Martínez and the London club.

Meanwhile, Raya is also weighing a change after being linked to two major La Liga clubs. Real Madrid sees him as a possible replacement for Thibaut Courtois, while Atlético Madrid might be exploring options due to the potential departure of Jan Oblak, who has been tempted by lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia.

In addition to Arsenal, Martínez has piqued the interest of other European giants. FC Barcelona is monitoring his situation as they search for a potential replacement for backup goalie Wojciech Szczesny. Furthermore, Manchester United considers Martínez as an ideal option to replace their current starter, André Onana.

Atlético Madrid’s coach, Diego Simeone, previously expressed interest in Martínez after the 2022 World Cup, reaching out to him in case Oblak decided to leave. However, no official offer was made to Aston Villa at that time, according to reports.

Martínez’s future appears bright yet uncertain, with prominent clubs willing to invest in acquiring him. He has proven to be a world-class goalkeeper, both with his club and the Argentine national team, having won the 2022 World Cup and two Copa América titles. His ability to perform under pressure makes him a sought-after talent in the current transfer market.

Aston Villa will need to carefully evaluate any offers for their star goalkeeper, whose contract runs until 2029. The upcoming transfer window is poised to be dynamic, with crucial developments expected in the coming weeks for Martínez and the interested teams.
