PARIS, France — Emma Raducanu secured her place in the second round of the French Open on Monday after a hard-fought victory against China’s Wang Xinyu. Raducanu triumphed with a score of 7-5, 4-6, 6-3, and will move on to face the reigning champion, Iga Swiatek.

The match began on Court 8 and quickly turned competitive. Raducanu took the first set, but her energy waned midway through the second as Wang fought back. On several occasions, Raducanu’s powerful forehands and tactical play placed her in the lead, but Wang’s resilience kept the outcome uncertain.

“I felt really flat at times, especially in the second set,” Raducanu admitted after the match. “But I think the important thing is that I found a way to win.” The decisive third set saw Raducanu regain her focus, establishing a 5-1 lead before closing out the match.

Raducanu expressed satisfaction with her performance, highlighting her ability to adapt under pressure. “Top champions often face struggles in the first round, and I’m proud to show that character and fight,” she added.

Carlos Alcaraz also advanced today, defeating Giulio Zeppieri in straight sets, showcasing his defending champion status. Meanwhile, other notable matches continue on the tournament’s opening day.

Next up, Raducanu faces Swiatek, who swept past her opening opponent, Rebecca Sramkova. This matchup promises to be a challenging yet exciting encounter for Raducanu, who is keen to continue her progress in the tournament.
