Emma Raducanu Madrid Open Tennis Match

MADRID, Spain — Emma Raducanu returns to the tennis court Wednesday as she opens her Madrid Open campaign against Dutch player Suzan Lamens.

The match is scheduled to start after 1:10 PM local time. Raducanu, ranked No. 47 in the world, is looking to build on her impressive run at the Miami Open last month, where she reached the quarter-finals.

Raducanu’s last performance was a significant improvement from earlier in the season, including wins over top-ranked players like Emma Navarro. She hopes to continue this momentum as she prepares for the clay-court season, which culminates in the French Open next month.

Raducanu’s coach, Mark Petchey, who has previously worked with Andy Murray, remains by her side in Madrid. Petchey has been instrumental in helping Raducanu regain her form after her challenges in early 2025.

Her opponent, Lamens, ranked No. 69, recently made it to the semi-finals at the Open de Rouen, showcasing her ability on clay courts. Lamens previously scored a victory over Raducanu’s teammate, Katie Boulter, in April’s Billie Jean King Cup.

As the match kicks off, Raducanu will look to assert her dominance and leverage her recent training to secure a win against the experienced Lamens. The outcome may set the tone for her performance in Madrid and throughout the clay season.

“I’m ready for the challenge and eager to get on the court,” Raducanu said before the match. The clash promises to be an engaging opening to the tournament for both players.
