Emma Raducanu Faces Wang Xinyu at the French Open 2025

PARIS, France – Emma Raducanu, the British tennis star and former US Open champion, is set to begin her French Open campaign against China’s Wang Xinyu. The match will take place on Court 8 as part of the tournament’s second day on May 26, 2025.
The 22-year-old Raducanu, currently ranked No. 41 in the world, comes into this match following a back spasm. She received treatment in Strasbourg, utilizing dry needling and heat therapy. Despite the setback, Raducanu feels prepared for the challenge, stating, “It feels OK, it feels good, not 100% yet, but we’re working towards that.”
Wang Xinyu, ranked No. 43, has previously faced Raducanu and holds a win over her in their only past meeting. As both players take the court, there is anticipation building among fans, with a decent crowd already gathered to see Raducanu.
Jonathan Jurejko, a BBC Sport senior tennis reporter, noted the unique dynamics of this match, stating that Raducanu has activated her game face while Wang appeared perplexed after being called for a foot fault early in the game.
Raducanu has expressed that she is beginning to bond with clay courts, a departure from her past preferences for hard surfaces. “I’ve been managing the issue during practices,” she said, referring to her back pain. “I’m excited to be back at Roland Garros after a long absence.”
As the match unfolds, Raducanu looks to showcase her skills and potentially set up a second-round encounter with world No. 1 Iga Swiatek. With both players eager to advance, fans can expect an exciting showdown on the red clay of Paris.
