Emmanuel Amuneke reveals Zamalek’s missed opportunity to sign Victor Osimhen
Former Zamalek winger, Emmanuel Amuneke, recently disclosed how his former club side missed out on the chance to sign a budding talent, Victor Osimhen, back in 2015. Amuneke, who has since retired and transitioned into coaching, had suggested Osimhen’s name to Zamalek’s board after witnessing his impressive performances during the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile that year. However, the Egyptian club overlooked the young player, who later moved to Europe to join Mario Gomez’s VFL Wolfsburg.

Amuneke, who made a name for himself donning the colors of Zamalek and later Sporting Lisbon and Barcelona, has a deep passion for nurturing talented African youngsters and offering them global opportunities. He emphasized the need for African clubs to have the courage to give chances to young players, as they are the future stars of the sport.

Osimhen went on to play for several clubs including Wolfsburg, Charleroi, LOSC Lille, and currently, Napoli, where he has become a household name. Despite Zamalek’s oversight, Osimhen’s remarkable talent and achievements have proven him to be one of Africa‘s finest footballers.
