Liam Livingstone achieved a record-breaking feat during England’s emphatic 186-run victory over Australia in the fourth One Day International (ODI) at Lord’s. His 50 runs off just 25 deliveries marked the fastest ODI half-century at the historic ground, as reported by Megan Wellens, a digital sports journalist.

During the match, England was asked to bat first by Australia. Coming in later in the innings, Livingstone capitalized on his limited opportunity, powering through seven sixes and three fours to remain unbeaten on 62. His dominant performance was highlighted by the final over against Australia’s Mitchell Starc, from which he scored a hefty 28 runs, setting a new team record of 12 sixes at Lord’s.

Besides Livingstone’s explosive innings, Ben Duckett contributed a vital 64, and captain Harry Brook added 87 to England’s formidable score. Harry Brook, reflecting on the win, stated, “We’ve taken all the positives and the momentum and brought them here. Duckett, we know how good he is at the top and is extremely hard to bowl to.”

Set a target of 313 to clinch both the match and series, Australia’s batting lineup crumbled after a promising start. Despite Travis Head and Mitch Marsh initially propelling Australia to 66 runs without a loss, a sequence of dismissals led by Brydon Carse (3-36), Jofra Archer (2-33), and Matthew Potts (4-38) saw them bowled out for just 126 runs.

Following an over two-hour rain delay that reduced the match to 39 overs per side, Australia struck early by dismissing Phil Salt (22) and Will Jacks (10). However, England responded with a strong partnership between Duckett and Brook. After Duckett was dismissed by Adam Zampa (2-66), Brook built further resilience alongside Jamie Smith, before himself being out for 87 after a spectacular catch by Glenn Maxwell off Zampa’s ball.

The Australian captain Mitch Marsh acknowledged England’s superior display, stating, “We were a bit off today but fair play to England they put us under pressure.”

With the series now tied at 2-2, the decisive fifth ODI is scheduled to take place in Bristol. England’s strong comeback after consecutive defeats is set to make for an exciting conclusion to the series.
