Erica Wheeler Inspires Seattle Storm Fans On and Off Court

Seattle, WA – Erica Wheeler, guard for the Seattle Storm, has quickly captured the hearts of fans with her vibrant energy and game-changing play on the court. In just a short time, she has demonstrated her knack for delivering clutch performances, including key three-pointers and important steals during crucial moments.
“She’s an energy giver,” said Storm Head Coach Noelle Quinn. “You see her on the sidelines waving her towel, always communicating. On the court, her efficiency is contagious, and her positivity leads to positive results.”
Wheeler, a 2019 WNBA All-Star Game MVP, credits her approach to life and basketball to her late mother, who passed away from cancer while Wheeler was in college. “My mom was someone who gave back to her community,” Wheeler recounted. “She taught me that happiness is a choice, and I don’t let negativity affect my path.”
Her mother’s influence inspired Wheeler to create the Wheeler Kid Foundation, which offers free basketball camps and support for families in need. “One lady was about to be evicted with her three kids, so we ended up paying her rent for three months,” she shared. “That’s the stuff that you don’t want to get on camera but you know it’s in your heart.”
Now playing for the Seattle Storm, Wheeler appreciates the organization’s support. “Seattle is awesome. The facility is great, and the owners are here, showing they care about us,” she said. “That drives us to play hard every night.”
For Wheeler, basketball is more than a game; it’s a mission to uplift others both on and off the court. “I remind my teammates to have fun because at the end of the day, it’s a beautiful game,” she stated, embodying the spirit of community and joy that she aims to spread.
