Erik Sullivan Usa Volleyball Head Coach

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – USA Volleyball announced the appointment of Erik Sullivan as the new head coach of the U.S. Women’s National Team on January 6, 2025. Sullivan, a two-time Olympian and former associate head coach at the University of Texas, succeeds Karch Kiraly, who led the team to three Olympic medals and a World Championship title.

Sullivan’s hiring comes at a pivotal time, with the 2025 Volleyball Nations League season set to begin on June 4 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. John Speraw, President and CEO of USA Volleyball, emphasized the urgency of the decision, stating, “We knew we had to move quickly but thoughtfully. It was critical to make the right decision while giving the new coach enough time to integrate into the program.”

With 14 years of experience at the University of Texas, Sullivan played a key role in guiding the Longhorns to eight NCAA Final Four appearances and three national titles. His expertise in defensive systems and talent development made him the ideal candidate for the role. “Erik’s coaching philosophy and values align perfectly with the team’s culture of excellence,” Speraw added.

Sullivan, who represented the U.S. as a libero in the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games, brings a deep understanding of international competition. “I’m honored and excited to take on this responsibility,” Sullivan said. “Karch Kiraly has left an incredible legacy, and I’m committed to building on that foundation.”

In addition to his collegiate success, Sullivan has been involved with USA Volleyball’s National Team Development Program and served as a consultant coach for the U.S. Men’s National Team. His appointment marks a new chapter for the U.S. Women’s National Team as they prepare for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Two-time Olympian Jordan Larson praised Sullivan’s leadership, stating, “Erik’s experience as an Olympian will be invaluable. The lessons he taught me about upholding a gold-medal standard continue to shape my game.”

Sullivan will focus on ensuring a smooth transition and maintaining the team’s competitive edge on the international stage. His tenure begins immediately as the team gears up for the upcoming season.
