Khalil Davis 49ers Texans Trade

The San Francisco 49ers made a significant move just before the 1 p.m. trade deadline on November 5, 2024, by acquiring defensive tackle Khalil Davis from the Houston Texans. The trade involves the 49ers sending a 2026 seventh-round draft pick to the Texans in exchange for Davis.

Khalil Davis, who stands at 6-1 and weighs 308 pounds, was originally selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the sixth round (No. 194 overall) of the 2020 NFL Draft. This season, he has played for the Texans, registering nine tackles, including four for a loss, two quarterback hits, and a sack through nine game appearances. Davis has been on the field for 32 percent of the defensive snaps, according to Pro Football Reference.

Davis’s career statistics include 43 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 10 quarterback hits, three sacks, two passes defensed, and a forced fumble across 27 games (one start) with the Buccaneers, Indianapolis Colts, and Texans. This acquisition is particularly timely for the 49ers, who recently lost defensive tackle Javon Hargrave for the season due to a partially torn triceps. However, there is still hope that Hargrave could return if the 49ers make another deep playoff run.

The trade was first reported by Dianna Russini of The Athletic. The move is seen as a bolstering of the 49ers’ interior defensive line, addressing a key need following Hargrave’s injury.

For the Texans, this trade comes as they prepare to welcome back defensive tackle Mario Edwards Jr. from a four-game suspension following their upcoming game against the Detroit Lions.
