San Francisco 49ers Coaching Staff Announcement

San Francisco, CA — The San Francisco 49ers have made significant changes to their coaching staff ahead of the 2025 NFL season, head coach Kyle Shanahan announced on February 25, 2025. Among the new hires are several former NFL players and experienced coaches, set to take on key roles within the organization.

Colt Anderson joins the 49ers as the assistant special teams coach, transitioning from his previous position as the special teams coordinator for the Tennessee Titans, where he worked for one season. Anderson has a robust background; he played eight seasons in the NFL as a safety with teams including the Philadelphia Eagles and the Indianapolis Colts. His on-field experience further complements his coaching credentials developed over four seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Another prominent addition is Gus Bradley, now serving as the assistant head coach of defense. Bradley has a wealth of experience, previously functioning as the defensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts and the Las Vegas Raiders, as well as the head coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars. His extensive coaching history includes significant tenures with the Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Chargers.

Ronald Blair III transitions to a special teams quality control role after working on the defensive line during his first season with the 49ers. A former player, Blair had a successful NFL career, playing for the 49ers and the New York Jets. He appeared in 55 games, showcasing his defensive prowess through various roles on the field.

Ray Brown, known for his 15 years of collegiate coaching experience, takes over as the defensive backs/cornerbacks coach. He previously coached at Boston College and has in-depth knowledge accumulated from years at Washington State, Utah State, and other institutions.

Chris Foerster, who has been with the 49ers since 2018, moves into the role of assistant head coach/offensive line. His coaching history speaks for itself; during his tenure, the 49ers’ offense ranked impressively across various metrics, including yards per play and rushing yards per game.

Other notable hires include Joe Graves as offensive assistant/quarterbacks coach, Patrick Hagedorn as chief of staff for football, and Leonard Hankerson as wide receivers/passing game specialist. The lineup also features Klay Kubiak as offensive coordinator, Mick Lombardi as quarterbacks coach, and Andrew Hayes-Stoker as offensive assistant/wide receivers.

Shanahan stated, “These new hires bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the 49ers organization. We believe these changes will help elevate our team’s performance on the field.”

In addition to these strategic assignments, several others will take on quality control and assistant roles, such as Jacob Webster in offensive quality control and Greg Scruggs in assistant defensive line.

The incoming coaching staff exemplifies a blend of NFL playing experience and coaching depth designed to optimize team strategy, player development, and overall competitiveness for the approaching 2025 season.
