76ers’ David Roddy Eyes Minutes Against Celtics Post-Trade Deadline

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — After the recent trade deadline, the Philadelphia 76ers made several roster adjustments, including converting two-way prospects to standard contracts and signing David Roddy to a 10-day deal. As the team prepares to face off against the Boston Celtics on Thursday, Roddy’s potential role remains uncertain.

Roddy, a former first-round pick in 2022, was quickly assigned to the Delaware Blue Coats of the NBA G League upon signing with the 76ers. As the All-Star break concluded, Roddy made his return to practice with the team. The upcoming matchup against their Atlantic Division rivals could serve as a crucial opportunity for Roddy to earn minutes.

“I’m excited to get back on the court and play meaningful minutes,” Roddy stated. “I know it’s a tough team, but I feel ready and prepared.”

Having played 162 games in the NBA across his tenures with the Memphis Grizzlies, Phoenix Suns, and Atlanta Hawks, Roddy is familiar with the league’s demands. Before the trade deadline, he participated in 27 games for the Hawks, averaging five points and three rebounds in roughly 13 minutes per game. His three-point shooting percentage stood at 37% during that stretch.

Since joining the 76ers, Roddy has made a strong debut with the Blue Coats, totaling 31 points and eight rebounds over 40 minutes of play. This performance created a positive impression prior to his recall.

“David showed a lot of promise when he was with the Blue Coats,” said 76ers head coach Doc Rivers. “We’ll see how he fits into the rotation as we get healthier.”

The 76ers are gearing up to host the Celtics at the Wells Fargo Center on Thursday night. With the team slowly regaining health post-All-Star break, competition for playing time is intense.
