San Francisco 49ers Upton Stout Nfl Draft

Santa Clara, CA — The San Francisco 49ers have selected cornerback Upton Stout from Western Kentucky University with the 100th overall pick in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Stout, who stood out as a playmaking defensive back during his collegiate career, earned first-team All-Conference USA honors in 2024. He recorded 52 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, a sack, and an interception during his senior season.

Across five seasons, including two at North Texas, Stout accumulated a total of 166 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, six interceptions, and one forced fumble. Known for his speed and agility, Stout impressed scouts by posting a 40-yard dash time of 4.44 seconds during the NFL Scouting Combine.

“Upton brings competitive spirit and versatility,” said 49ers General Manager John Lynch. “He can contribute on defense and special teams, which is vital for our roster.”

At 5 feet 9 inches and 181 pounds, Stout may be undersized compared to other cornerbacks, but he makes up for it with his aggressive playing style and quick reaction times. His experience as a kick and punt returner adds additional value to his skill set.

Stout began his collegiate career at North Texas, earning Freshman All-American honors in 2020. After transferring to Western Kentucky for the 2022 season, he became a significant contributor, particularly in his last year when he helped lead the Hilltoppers to the CUSA Championship Game.

The 49ers, looking to strengthen their secondary after losing former All-Pro Charvarius Ward to free agency, are expecting Stout to compete for immediate playing time alongside incumbents like Deommodore Lenoir.

“I am excited to join the 49ers and can’t wait to get to work,” Stout said after the selection. “I will give it my all and prove my worth.”

With Stout’s selection, the 49ers secure their first CUSA player in the draft this year, marking Western Kentucky’s fourth consecutive season with a drafted player.
