Philadelphia 76ers Players In Action

CAMDEN, N.J. — The Philadelphia 76ers are entering the final stretch of a challenging season, with only 20 games remaining. Plagued by injuries to key players like Joel Embiid, who has appeared in just 19 games, the team is shifting its focus toward the development of younger talent.

Despite the adversity, the Sixers are using this time to give their younger players valuable game experience, looking ahead to future seasons. Justin Edwards, for example, aims to continue his development after averaging 8.4 points and 3.1 rebounds in 29 games this year.

“Just to continue to better myself really,” Edwards said about his goals for the rest of the season. “I feel like that’s what helped me get the opportunity to play, is just continuing to work on my craft and do what the coaches need me to do.”

With the roster affected by injuries, opportunities have arisen for players like Edwards to become significant contributors. He has improved as a driver to the basket and has learned to finish against taller defenders.

“Yeah, and the game’s just slowing down for me a little bit more,” he added. “Then with guys like Tyrese (Maxey) and all them being with us, it’s more opportunity for me to drive and play with the ball in my hand. So I’m just taking advantage of it.”

Veteran Kelly Oubre Jr., now in his 10th season, has had a notable impact on Edwards’ growth. Oubre has been a source of guidance, offering advice and support to the rookie as he navigates his first NBA season.

“He’s been really important to me,” Edwards said of Oubre. “He’s been on me a lot. Just because he’s left-handed, too, and he also sees a lot of growth for me. He’s always telling me to just believe in myself and stop thinking a lot. So that’s probably one of the biggest things he tells me all the time.”

The Sixers will face the Utah Jazz on Sunday before heading out on the road to take on the Atlanta Hawks on Monday.
